A coalition around former president Roumen Radev would win 25.6 per cent of the vote were elections held now, according to a poll by the Market Links agency, the results of which were released on February 16.
Bulgaria is heading to early parliamentary elections, with the date of April 19 pencilled in, and these will be the first National Assembly elections since Radev stepped down as head of state.
In second place is Boiko Borissov’s GERB-UDF coalition, with 15.4 per cent, third is the We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria coalition, with 12.5 per cent, followed by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning party which is led by Magnitsky Act-sanctioned Delyan Peevski, 10.5 per cent, and pro-Russian party Vuzrazhdane, 4.5 per cent.
Four parties currently in the National Assembly are now well below the threshold of four per cent of valid votes to win seats in the next.
Mech has 2.5 per cent, the Bulgarian Socialist Party – United Left 2.3 per cent, ITN 1.5 per cent and the Ahmed Dogan loyalists of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms, 0.4 per cent.
The poll found that trust in institutions is critically low, with the government and Parliament approaching their lowest ratings in recent years.
Radev is the only political figure with a positive net rating, with trust in him increasing since leaving the presidency. His approval rating rose by six to seven points, to 51 per cent, after he left the presidency.
Borissov has an approval rating of 15 per cent, WCC leader Assen Vassilev 12 per cent and Vuzrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov 16 per cent. Peevski has an approval rating of eight per cent and a disapproval rating of 86 per cent.
