Bulgaria issues Code Red weather warnings for two districts because of forecast heavy rain
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Red warning of very dangerous weather for the districts of Kurdhzali and Smolyan for February 5 because of forecast heavy rain.
The meteorological bureau also has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather on February 5 for the districts of Haskovo, Sliven and Stara Zagora, also because of heavy rain.
Several districts in western Bulgaria, including capital city Sofia, are subject to the Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather because of forecast snowfall, while several in eastern Bulgaria are under a Code Yellow because of forecast rain.
For February 5, six districts are classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place: Dobrich, Silistra, Rousse, Razgrad, Turgovishte and Kyustendil.
The meteorological bureau said that on February 5, minimum temperatures in northern Bulgaria and the highlands of western Bulgaria will be between minus 6° and minus 1° Celsius, in the southern half of the country and along the Black Sea coast – between 1° and 6°, in Sofia, around minus 2°.
Maximum temperatures in the western and central parts of northern Bulgaria will be between 0° and 2°, in the rest of the country, mainly between 5° and 10°, in Sofia, around 5°.
It will be cloudy in the mountains. Snow will fall in the regions above 1600-1800 metres above sea level, and rain will fall in the lower parts. Precipitation will be significant in the Rila-Rhodope region and the Central Balkans. A strong and stormy southerly wind will blow. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 6°, at 2000 metres, about 0°.
It will be cloudy along the Black Sea coast and rain will begin before noon. A moderate and temporarily strong southeast wind will blow. Maximum temperatures will be 7°-8°, the meteorological bureau said.
