Bulgaria issues weather warnings over heavy rain forecast for January 29
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for several districts, and the lesser Code Yellow for a number of others, for January 29 because of forecast heavy rain.
The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kurdzhali, Haskovo, Yambol and Bourgas.
Those subject to the Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather are Plovdiv, Sofia district (as distinct from the district of Sofia city), Kyustendil, Sliven, Shoumen and Varna.
The remaining districts are classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.
The meteorological bureau said that on January 29, minimum temperatures will be mainly between 0° and 5° Celsius, in the southeastern regions up to 7°-8°, in Sofia, around 2°. Maximum temperatures will be mostly between 7° and 12°, slightly higher in Eastern Bulgaria, in Sofia, around 7°.
The bureau said that the weather in Bulgaria will be under the influence of a Mediterranean cyclone. It will be mainly cloudy, with fog in places on the plains, the bureau said.
There will be significant amounts of precipitation in southern Bulgaria. Thunderstorms are also possible in the south-eastern regions.
In north-western Bulgaria there will be almost no precipitation.
In the mountains it will be mostly cloudy, in the massifs in southern Bulgaria with snowfall, below 1600 metres, with rain. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 5°, at 2000 metres, about minus 1°.
Along the Black Sea coast it will be mostly cloudy with rain showers, which will start around noon from the south and by the end of the evening will cover the entire coast. Maximum temperatures will be between 10° and 14°.
