Bulgaria offers emergency fuel supplies to N Macedonia over State of Emergency
Bulgaria has offered emergency supplies of fuel oil to the Republic of North Macedonia after the government in Skopje declared a State of Emergency, the Bulgarian government information service said on December 24.
Acting on the instructions of Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov checked the stocks of fuel oil and established that there are sufficient quantities for the needs of Bulgaria, the statement said.
It said that the proposal was made in a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev and his North Macedonian counterpart Timčo Mucunski.
“During the conversation, it was emphasized that the provision of assistance is an expression of good neighbourliness and solidarity and is aimed at ensuring energy security and stability in the region,” the statement said.
On December 23, the government in Skopje declared a state of emergency in the country due to difficulties in energy supplies. The situation is caused by the blockade of the border crossings with Greece by Greek farmers, which is hindering the import of fuels and raw materials.
