Bulgaria’s National Gallery acquires 1986 work by Christo
Bulgaria’s National Gallery announced on February 20 that it has acquired a remarkable 1986 work by Christo.
The artwork for Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s iconic project – ’The Wrapped Reichstag (Project for Berlin, 1971–95)‘ was acquired directly from the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation, the gallery said.
The significant collage, signed by the artist, consists of two parts created from a hand drawing with pencil and crayon, an architectural plan of the facade, fabric and thread.
The piece becomes Christo’s first original work in a public museum collection in Bulgaria.
“The Wrapped Reichstag”, 1986, will be presented on June 24 2025 at Kvadrat 500 to the public on the 30th anniversary of the project in Berlin, which gathered five million visitors over 14 days, setting a world record for visits to a cultural event at the time.

The exhibiting of the work is also on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, celebrated around the world throughout 2025.
