Bulgaria issues weather warnings over forecast cold weather, snow

Bulgaria’s meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of hazardous weather for the Bourgas district for February 19 because of forecast cold weather and snowfalls, while a number of other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning.

The Code Yellow warning of potentially hazardous weather, also because of forecast cold weather and snowfall, has been issued for Wednesday for the districts of Yambol, Sliven, Varna, Dobrich, Silistra, Razgrad and Turgovishte.

In its forecast for February 19, the meteorological bureau said that during the night, it will continue to snow in many places in eastern Bulgaria, with significant precipitation mainly in the southeastern regions.

Blizzards and gusts are possible.

The minimum temperatures in most places in Bulgaria will be between minus 8° and minus 3°, for Sofia, about minus 7°.

On February 19, snowfall in the northeastern regions will begin to stop, but in southeastern Bulgaria it will still continue to snow in many places, with rain and snow in the far southeastern regions.

In the eastern part of the country, a moderate and temporarily strong wind from the north-northeast will continue to blow.

In the second half of the day, over the western and central regions, the cloud cover will decrease. There, a moderate wind will blow from the west-northwest. The maximum temperatures will be mainly between minus 3° and 2°, for Sofia, about minus 1°.

In the mountains before noon, the weather will be mainly cloudy. Snow will fall in the central and eastern parts of the Stara Planina, in the Eastern Rhodopes and Strandzha.

After noon, the cloudiness over the mountain ranges of Western Bulgaria will decrease. A moderate wind will blow from the north-northeast. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be around minus 4°, at 2000 meters – around minus 10°.

It will be cloudy over the Black Sea coast. There will be significant snowfall mainly along the southern coast, in the southernmost part, rain and snow. A moderate and temporarily strong wind from the north-northeast will continue to blow. Maximum temperatures will be between 0° and 4°.
