Bulgaria’s January 2025 road death toll is 31

A total of 31 people died in road accidents in Bulgaria in January 2025, the Interior Ministry said on February 1, citing provisional data.

This is one more road death than at the same time in 2024, the ministry said.

There were 451 road accidents in Bulgaria in January 2025 in which people died or were injured.

Apart from the death toll, a total of 551 people were injured.

Bulgaria had the highest road fatality rate in the European Union in 2023, the European Commission (EC) said on October 10, citing final official figures.

Bulgaria’s 2023 road fatality rate was one per cent lower than in 2022, was 16 per cent lower than in 2019 and 18 per cent lower than the country’s 2017-2019 average.
