FDI in Bulgaria in January-November 2024 was 1.49B euro
Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria in the first 11 months of 2024 stood at 1.49 billion euro, the equivalent of 1.5 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP), statistics from the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) showed on January 17.
In the same period of 2023, FDI was 3.4 billion euro, although BNB originally reported 3.49 billion euro, which was revised downward later.
Investment in equity, including in the real estate sector, was 45.8 million euro (compared to 533.7 million euro in January-November 2023) and the BNB figures showed 1.47 billion euro in re-invested earnings (compared to 3.06 billion euro for the first 11 months of 2023.)
Net receipts from real estate investments by foreign companies recorded a net outflow of 10.8 million euro, compared to a net outflow of 14.2 million euro recorded in the same period of 2023.
The central bank data showed 26.7 million euro in investment outflows as debt instruments, recorded as the change in the net liabilities of Bulgarian companies towards their foreign investor owners, compared to a net outflow of 199.6 million euro in the first 11 months of 2023. Such financial flows include financial loans, suppliers’ credits and debt securities, BNB said.
By country, the largest direct investment in Bulgaria in January-November came from Austria (406.6 million euro), the Netherlands (327.5 million euro) and Greece (282.4 million euro). Notable net outflows were recorded towards Luxembourg (-294.5 million euro) and the United States (-209 million euro).
According to preliminary figures, Bulgarian investment abroad increased by 510 million euro in January-November, compared to 604.5 million euro in the same period of 2023, BNB said.
