Bulgarian economy grew by 0.5% in Q3 2024 – flash estimate

Bulgaria’s economy grew by 0.5 per cent in the third quarter of the year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a flash estimate on November 14. In real terms, gross domestic product (GDP) in Bulgaria in July-September was 53.29 billion leva, or 27.25 billion euro.

In annual terms, the economic growth in the third quarter was 2.2 per cent, compared to the same period of 2023. NSI is due to announce preliminary growth figures for the quarter on December 6.

The flash estimate’s seasonally-adjusted data showed domestic consumption increase by 1.3 per cent during the third quarter, and it was 4.6 per cent higher on an annual basis.

Gross fixed capital formation shrank by 0.2 per cent in July-September, and was 4.9 per cent lower compared to the third quarter of 2023.

Exports declined by 1.2 per cent compared to the second quarter and were 0.1 per cent higher compared to the third quarter of last year, while imports were flat on a quarterly basis and 2.9 per cent higher year-on-year.

The country recorded a trade surplus of 2.91 billion leva in the third quarter, the equivalent of 5.4 per cent of GDP, NSI said.
