Bulgaria pays for free transport for Ukrainian pupils in the country
Bulgaria’s caretaker government approved at a meeting on October 15 a sum of 297 674 leva (about 151 000 euro) to pay for free transport to school for pupils from Ukraine who have temporary protection in Bulgaria, the government information service said.
The funds will ensure their transportation from the places of accommodation to the educational institutions for the entire school year, from September 16 to June 30 2025, the statement said.
The largest number of children and pupils are in educational institutions in the districts of Bourgas and Varna, it said.
They enroll in schools with available places and for this reason some of the children attend educational institutions that are far away from where they are staying.
The financial assistance will be paid from the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science and from the budget of five municipalities – Nessebur, Pomorie, Varna, Aksakovo and Balchik, the statement said.
