Bulgaria issues warning of dangerous weather over heavy rain forecast for September 29

Bulgaria’s national weather bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for districts in the central and eastern part of the country for September 29 because of forecast heavy rain.

The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Pleven, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Razgrad, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna, Bourgas, Haskovo, Yambol, Sliven, Turgovishte, Gabrovo, Stara Zagora, Shoumen and Kurdzhali.

The remaining districts, in the western part of Bulgaria, are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, also because of forecast heavy rain.

The days leading up to September 29 have seen warm temperatures across Bulgaria, reaching 30 degrees Celsius and more in some places.

But on September 29, a north-west wind will bring in cold air, with cloudiness increasing and brief thundershowers in many places, the national weather bureau said.

Temperatures will drop and by mid-afternoon, will vary significantly, from 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in western regions to 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in the Upper Thracian lowland.

The night will see intense rainfall in central north and north-eastern Bulgaria, while in the west the rain will begin to ease.

On Monday, it will be cloudy, windy and rainy over the eastern half of the country; over the west the precipitation will stop, the clouds will begin to break, the wind will weaken. Maximum temperatures will be 10-15 degrees Celsius lower than the previous days, according to the weather bureau.
