Bulgaria’s latest hot spell: Weather warnings for August 15
For a third consecutive day, Bulgaria’s national weather forecast office has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for several districts, with high temperatures expected on August 15.
The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Turnovo and Blagoevgrad.
All other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, also because of forecast high temperatures, with the exception of five districts in eastern Bulgaria classified as Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.
The five districts classified as Code Green are Razgrad, Shoumen, Silistra, Varna and Bourgas.
For August 15, the forecast maximum temperature for Sandanski is 40 degrees Celsius, Vidin and Pleven 39 deg C, Montana 38 and Rousse and Plovdiv 37.
Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia is set for a high of 35 deg C. At the Black Sea coast, the forecast high for Varna is 30 deg C and Bourgas 31 deg C.
The weather bureau said that on Thursday afternoon the weather would be cloudy over western Bulgaria, with rain and thunder in a few places.
It will sunny in the mountains, with rain and thunder possible in some places in the afternoon.
At the Black Sea coast, it will be sunny with a moderate wind and maximum temperatures ranging from 28 to 31 deg C. The temperature of the sea water was 27 to 28 deg C, the weather bureau said.
