Bulgaria issues weather warnings over forecast soaring temperatures

The Code Orange warning of dangerous weather has been issued for several of Bulgaria’s districts for August 13 because of forecast high temperatures.

The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Turgovishte, Sliven, Yambol, Haskovo, Kurdzhali, Smolyan, Blagoevgrad, Lovech, Plovdiv and Stara Zagora.

The lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather has been issued for all other districts for Tuesday, also because of forecast high temperatures.

The forecast maximum temperature for Rousse and Sandanski for August 13 is 40 degrees Celsius.

Plovdiv, Veliko Turnovo, Yambol and Montana face a forecast high of 39 deg C, and Blagoevgrad, Kurdzhali and Pleven 38 deg C.

Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia is set for a daytime high of 35 deg C, and at the coast, the maximum temperature in Varna will be 30 deg C and in Bourgas, 32 deg C.

According to the national weather bureau, in coming days the weather in Bulgaria will be mostly sunny.

August 14 will see slightly lower temperatures, with partly cloudy weather over the north-western part of the country, with short-term rain accompanied by thunder in some places.

In the latter half of the week, maximum temperatures will be between 33 and 38 degrees C.
