Bulgaria’s heatwave: Code Red warning of extremely hazardous weather issued for four districts
Bulgaria’s national weather bureau has issued the Code Red warning of extremely dangerous weather for four districts for July 16 because of forecasts of searingly hot temperatures.
The four districts subject to the Code Red warning on Tuesday are Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Pleven and Blagoevgrad.
The forecast maximum temperature for Rousse for July 16 is 42 degrees Celsius, for Pleven 41 deg C and for Veliko Turnovo and Blagoevgrad 40 degrees.
Every other district in Bulgaria is subject to the Code Orange warning of hazardous weather for July 16 because of forecast high temperatures.
Vidin and Yambol are set to see 41 degrees C and Plovdiv, Montana and Silistra 40 deg C.
The forecast high for Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia for Tuesday is 37 deg C and at the seaside, Varna faces a high of 35 deg C and Bourgas 33 deg C.
Rousse municipality said on its website that from July 15 to 19, it is setting up a temporary checkpoint in front of the Courthouse building on Svoboda Square. From 11 am to 3 pm, mineral water will be given to the public free of charge.

Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry said on July 15 that military personnel were continuing, for the latest consecutive day, to assist in large fires in various parts of the country.
The ministry said that on July 14, for the third day, Bulgarian Air Force helicopter crews were continuing to help extinguish fires.
On July 15, for a third day, there were restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles in parts of Bulgaria, the Road Infrastructure Agency said.
The restrictions were in force from 1pm to 9pm in the districts of Rousse, Shoumen, Veliko Turnovo, Turgovishte, Razgrad and Silistra, the agency said.
The restrictions do not apply to motor vehicles transporting perishable food, temperature controlled goods, live animals and dangerous goods.
