Unemployment in Bulgaria in January 2018 was 5.9%, down from 6.6% a year earlier – Eurostat

Unemployment in Bulgaria in January 2018 was 5.9 per cent, down from 6.6 per cent in January 2017 and again below the average for the European Union, which was 7.3 per cent.

The unemployment figure in Bulgaria in January 2018 represented about 204 000 people. In the first month of 2017, the figure was about 217 000 people.

However, while youth unemployment in Bulgaria showed a nominal decrease over the past year, from 14 per cent in January 2017 to 11.8 per cent in January 2018, the figures represented, respectively, about 22 000 and 24 000 under-25s.

Eurostat said that unemployment in the EU was the lowest since October 2008. It estimated that that 17.931 million men and women in the EU28, of whom 14.111 million in the euro zone, were unemployed in January 2018.
