Italian military aircraft makes emergency landing in Sofia over engine trouble

An Italian Air Force Spartan transport aircraft on a flight from Plovdiv made an emergency landing at Sofia Airport on January 16 after developing engine trouble.

No one was injured in the incident. The aircraft was carrying a five-member military delegation, who had been taking part in a scheduled conference at the Graf Ignatievo air base near Plovdiv.

Ambulances, fire engines and other emergency vehicles were dispatched to the scene as the aircraft landed at the airport in the Bulgarian capital, standard procedure in such situations, it emerged from an Interior Ministry statement.
