Polish Foreign Minister upset by idea of EU supervision over Poland’s rule of law
Poland’s foreign minister, Witold Waszczykowski, said on Monday that he is highly disturbed by the comments made by EU Commissioner for the digital economy and society, Gunther Oettinger, that Poland should be put under the EU’s rule of law supervision, a procedure that could lead to the suspension of Poland’s voting rights within the bloc.
“I am concerned about the commissioner’s words because they create a false image of Poland,” Waszczykowski said.
The recent laws that have been pushed through by Poland’s new conservative government of Law and Justice (PiS) to rein in the country’s constitutional court and state media have raised growing concern in Brussels.
