Poland locked in constitutional crisis

Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal ruled on Thursday the appointment of two of five judges appointed to the highest judicial body by the Sejm lower house in its previous term of office as unconstitutional, specifically referring to the two judges whose term of office expired after the end of the term of office of the previous government of Civic Platform (PO).

Moreover, in the Tribunal’s opinion, President Andrzej Duda was obliged to swear in the tribunal judges elected by the previous Sejm without delay.
