Police chiefs of two Bulgarian towns arrested
The chiefs of police of the Bulgarian towns of Assenovgrad and Purvomai were arrested on September 16 and face possible charges of defeating the ends of justice and are under investigation regarding possible corruption.
The two pre-trial proceedings, against Assenovgrad police chief Dimcho Temelkov and Purvomai police chief Vassil Nalbantov, are not connected, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
Prosecutors in Plovdiv said that a special operation had been carried out in the towns on September 16 by officers of the internal security department of the Ministry of Interior.
The operation was under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Plovdiv. Further details would be given at a news conference on September 17, prosecutors said.
