Ryanair to launch daily flights from London to Sofia in summer 2016
Low-cost airline Ryanair will expand its destinations list to include Bulgaria’s capital city of Sofia starting in May 2016, with daily flights connecting it to London Stansted airport. Tickets will go on sale in September.
Currently, the airline’s sole destination in Bulgaria is the country’s second-largest city, Plovdiv, which has four flights a week to Stansted airport.
“Ryanair is pleased to announce a new daily London Stansted to Sofia route beginning May 2016, which will go on sale on www.ryanair.com in September. Sofia is another key capital city airport and our second in Bulgaria, as we continue to grow Europe’s largest route network, with more routes and flights and improved schedules,” the company’s spokesperson Robin Kiely said.
Among Ryanair’s rival low-cost airlines, easyJet already flies from Sofia to London Gatwick, with flights to London Stansted set to start in December, while Wizz Air has 18 weekly flights to London Luton, which will increase to 21 weekly flights in March 2016 once the airline adds a sixth Airbus to its Sofia base.
