Bulgarian President confers highest state honour on departing US ambassador
Bulgarian head of state President Rossen Plevneliev conferred the country’s highest state honour, the Stara Planina first class, on outgoing US ambassador Marcie Ries.
Ries has been US ambassador to Bulgaria since October 2012 and her term ends on July 29 2015.
At the ceremony on July 23, Plevneliev said that the award was a clear expression of recognition for the significant contribution Ries had made to deepening the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the US.
