What’s On: Varna Summer International Music Festival, from June 20 to August 20

The 2015 Varna Summer International Music Festival, a showcase for opera, symphony concerts, chamber and choral music, is on in the Bulgarian Black Sea city from June 20 to August 20.

One of the longest-standing such music festivals in Europe and the oldest in Bulgaria, the Varna festival traces its origins back to the mid-1920s.

The festival opens with a performance by the Symphony Orchestra of the Varna State Opera, conducted by Yordan Kamdzhalov, of works by Vladigerov and Tchaikovsky.

The series comes to an end three months later with an open-air theatre performance of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale on August 20.
