Ethnic Poles evacuated from Ukraine’s embattled Donbas

A total 178 of Ukrainian citizens of Polish descent and their families, evacuated with the Polish government’s help from war-torn region of Donbas in eastern Ukraine, arrived at the Malbork military airport in northern Poland on Tuesday.

According to the Polish Foreign Ministry, about 4000 ethnic Poles lived in eastern Ukraine before the start of a conflict. Most have left the region by now, with some 200 remaining in the military operation zone.
