Price of Bulgarian 2015 vignette road stickers unchanged

The price of vignette stickers, mandatory for motor vehicles travelling on roads outside urban areas in Bulgaria, will remain unchanged in 2015.

Current vignettes are valid until January 31 2015.

New vignettes, with added security features, go on sale on December 15 2014. They will be on sale at 3300 distribution points, including fuel stations, retailers, offices of Bulgarian Posts, regional road administrations and border checkpoints.

For cars, the prices are 10 leva for a vignette valid for a week, 25 for a monthly one and 67 leva for a vignette for a year. According to the Road Infrastructure Agency, the prices in euro are five euro for a weekly vignette, 13 euro for a monthly one and 34 euro for an annual vignette.

Additional security features have been introduced in the 2015 vignettes to reduce the possibility of forgery.

Failing to display a valid vignette on a motor vehicle means a fine of 300 leva, in the case of light motor vehicles, up to 3000 leva depending on the category of the vehicle.

There is an idea to replace the system of stickers, affixed to the windscreens of vehicles, with electronic vignettes. Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova told a news conference on December 2 that this would not happen until at least 2018.

More information about vignettes is available in English on the Road Infrastructure Agency website.
