What’s On: ‘Picnic of Freedom’ in Sofia’s Borissova Gradina on June 14

The German embassy in Sofia and Swift Gap Events (Flashmob Bulgaria) are organising a “Party Lights Experiment” at a Picnic of Freedom in the Bulgarian capital city’s Borissova Gradina on June 14 from 5pm onwards.

The event will offer live music from groups from Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia, France, Scotland and Russia, Greece and Bulgaria.

According to a statement by the German embassy, there will be games for all ages, a kite festival and poetry – and surprises on the evening.

People are invited to join in a picnic on the lawn on the avenue near the water lily pond in Borissova Gradina. Visitors are asked to bring food and drink, something to sit on, torches and to wear colourful clothing.

The Picnic of Freedom concept is linked to the fact that this year, Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic celebrated 25 years of freedom from the communist regimes. Diplomatic missions and cultural institutes are organising events related to these 25th anniversary celebrations.
