What’s On: Fernando Hervás exhibition at Expo Bath Sofia

Work by Madrid artist Fernando Hervás is on view at the Expo Bath Sofia showroom in the Bulgarian capital city until February 15 2014.

Well-known in Europe and the United States, Hervás is showing, for the first time in Bulgaria, 40 paintings and sculptures in an exhibition entitled Ashes of Verse. There is also a visual projection of joint work with photographer Nina Nikolova, entitled The House That Never Saw the Sea.

“The exhibition provides a multidisciplinary approach, through which the author investigates the border between different artistic languages and the complex relationship between painting , sculpture, photography and video,” a media statement about the exhibition said.

The joint project with Nikolova includes a photo essay of more than 200 portraits of a Roma woman, made over a period of nine years.

Nikolova’s photo essay “shows the inner universe of Maria, from the suburbs of Plovdiv, from childhood to the birth of her first child”.

The exhibition, organised by the embassy of Spain in Bulgaria, is at 16 Maria Louisa Boulevard. Opening hours: Monday to Friday noon to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 6pm.
