What’s on: Sofia Breathes

For a fourth year running, residents and visitors of Sofia are invited to shake off the torpor of the hot August Sunday afternoons and take a (metaphorical) breath of fresh air.

Sofia Breathes (Sofia Disha) is the annual street fest filled with performances and numerous activities, which this year will focus “on cultural, art, social and educational initiatives, with a special emphasis on ecology as a way of living,” organisers say.

The name of this year’s fest is “Ecomorphosis” – for four Sundays in August, the event will offer visitors “the opportunity to walk in the open, enjoying the warm sun, unbothered by car horns and exhaust fumes […] to rediscover the values of Bulgarian nature, bio-diversity and culinary traditions.”

The first Sunday, August 4, Sofia Breathes can be found in the same place where it began in 2010 – Shishman Street – before moving to Angel Kunchev Street the following Sunday. On August 18, the fest will be hosted by Pirotska Street and on August 25, on Vitosha Boulevard.
