Bulgarians coming to Britain lawfully are welcome, UK minister says
All Bulgarian citizens who come legally to work and study in the United Kingdom, pay taxes and contribute to society are welcome and will continue to be so, UK minister of state for European affairs David Lidington said on July 2 2013.
Lidington, on a visit to Bulgarian capital city Sofia, was commenting on the ending of EU labour market restrictions on Bulgaria at the end of 2013, a topic that has generated gibbering hysteria among some sections of the British press and political spectrum.
Lidington gave an assurance that any reforms undertaken by the UK would be applied on an absolutely non-discriminatory basis to all EU citizens, a statement by the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said.
“The development of economic relations between Bulgaria and the UK, including attracting British investment and the expansion of the activities of British companies that already have set up in Bulgaria, is among our priorities,” Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin said.
