Care for children focus of Prince Edward’s visit to Bulgaria

Caring for children disadvantaged by social circumstances or who are physically challenged is a key focus of the visit to Bulgaria by Britain’s Prince Edward and his wife Sophie.

The visit, on June 23 and 24, is taking place at the invitation of Bulgarian President Rossen Plevneliev, who received them at the Lozenets Residence in Sofia on Sunday.

On June 24, the visiting couple were due to visit the First Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital St Sofia, along with Labour and Social Policy Minister Hassan Ademov, for discussions with hospital management and the representatives of the For Our Children Foundation the successful implementation of a project aimed at prevention of abandonment of children.

Also on June 24, Plevneliev, Edward and Sophie and Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandukova were to visit the For Our Children Foundation’s St Sofia Center for Public Support and will meet foster families.

Other scheduled events included Edward visiting the Azbukari playground for physically-challenged and able-bodied children in Sofia’s South Park.
