‘Code yellow’ hazardous weather warning for Bulgaria

A “code yellow” hazardous weather warning has been issued for 21 districts in Bulgaria, the meteorological institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences said on May 23.

Strong winds have been forecast for the Montana, Vratsa, Sofia, Pazardjik, Plovdiv, Kurdjali, Stara Zagora, Haskovo, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Sliven, Yambol, Rousse, Turgovishte, Razgrad, Shoumen, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna and Bourgas regions.

“Code yellow” warnings are issued in instances when the weather forecast contains no unusual phenomena, but residents are nevertheless warned to exercise caution.

Earlier this year, in March, strong winds caused damages of more than two million leva in Gabrovo, while a 20-year-old woman was killed by fallen scaffolding swept by the storm wind.
