Family of five found dead in Sofia apartment

A family of five was found dead in an apartment in the Gotse Delchev residential area of Sofia, police in the Bulgarian capital city said on January 11 2013.

The dead included a woman of 79, her daughter and son-in-law, both in their mid-50s and their two sons, aged 27 and 21. The victims died of gunshot and stab wounds.

Shell casings and knives were found at the scene. Police said that it appeared that the perpetrator was the elder son, who seemed to have shot himself.

Reports said that a firearm found in the apartment had been legally owned by the alleged perpetrator, said to have a history of mental illness.
