New Year’s Eve concerts in Sofia and around Bulgaria

Several Bulgarian singing stars will perform at an open-air concert on New Year’s Eve on Sofia’s Alexander Battenberg Square.

The concert starts at 10pm with a scheduled ending time of 1am.

Plovdiv will have its own open-air concert, on Stefan Stambolov Square, starting at 10pm. A few minutes before midnight, the New Year’s speech by President Rossen Plevneliev will be broadcast on a giant screen and this is to be followed by a fireworks display organised by Plovdiv municipality, reportedly to include 3000 fireworks.

In the Black Sea city of Varna, US singer Joe Lynn Turner – formerly of Rainbow and Deep Purple, among others – will perform at Nezavisimost (Independence) Square. Public transport in Varna will be free of charge until 3am.

In Rousse on the Danube, the festive programme starts at 10.30pm with a performance by the Naiden Kirov folk dance theatre.

In Blagoevgrad, the Pirin Ensemble will perform on a special stage in the centre of the city.
