Close to 50 000 firms registered in Bulgaria in 2012

Close to 50 000 new companies, most of them SMEs, were registered in Bulgaria in 2012, nearly 5000 more than in 2011, according to Registry Agency figures.

However, more than 1400 small and medium enterprises went out of business in Bulgaria in 2012, some of them 20 years old, reports said.

Separately, public broadcaster Bulgarian National Radio reported as 2012 headed for a close that the year had seen an increase in the number of companies offering fast micro loans.

Such companies were posing serious competition to banks, amid a growing market of people who used such loans to cover urgent expenses.

Analysts said that demand for fast micro loans had risen in the days before Christmas.
