Region: Doctors protest against healthcare reform

‘Thank you, we are leaving’ campaign spreads across CEE region

Long-running tensions between doctors and governments in the Visegrad Four (V4) countries – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – escalated at a symbolic protest that took place across the four countries on November 20, calling out governments for failing to address the mounting grievances of doctors unions.

Doctors in the region have long opposed the health policies of their respective countries, especially in the Czech Republic, where the “Thank You, We Are Leaving” (Děkujeme, odcházime) campaign, launched in the summer of 2010, saw more than 4000 doctors hand in their post-dated resignations to hospitals, making their frustration over unsatisfactory pay rates and working conditions known.
