Dutch Euro 2012 party at J.J. Murphy in Sofia

Dutch expats and local supporters of The Netherlands football team gathered at J.J. Murphy’s pub in Sofia on June 10 to watch the Netherlands take on Denmark in their opening fixture of the European football championship’s Group B.

In the first surprise result of Euro 2012, the Danes snagged an unexpected win, shocking the Dutch with a goal from Michael Krohn-Dehli in the first half and holding on to win 1-0.

Despite mounting a veritable siege of the Danish goal, the Dutch players’ profligacy – much to the dismay of the crowd assembled at J.J. Murphy’s – means that the team goes into its next match against tradional rivals Germany, on June 13, needing a win to avoid an early exit from the tournament.
