Eavesdropping controversy: Kokinov resigns from judiciary

Nikolai Kokinov, the Sofia City Prosecutor who resigned as administrative head of the prosecutor’s office on April 26 after recordings were leaked of him allegedly  in conversation with former PM Boiko Borissov and former minister Miroslav Naidenov about how to influence the course of an investigation into Naidenov, on April 29 resigned from the judiciary entirely.

Kokinov made the move as the Supreme Judicial Council’s ethics committee was scheduled to meet to discuss whether to open a formal investigation into his conduct. If found to have been involved in a conversation on subverting the course of justice, the maximum penalty would be dismissal from the judiciary.
