Eurostat: Bulgaria’s tax revenue rose 10.4% in 2025 on an annual basis

Bulgaria had the second-highest annual increase in tax and social contribution revenue among EU countries in 2025, at 10.4 per cent, EU statistics agency Eurostat said on October 29.

In absolute terms from 2024 to 2025, all of the EU and EFTA countries experienced an increase in tax revenue, Eurostat said.

Among EU countries, the strongest increases in absolute tax and social contribution revenue from 2024 to 2025 were observed for Romania (10.5 per cent), Bulgaria (10.4 per cent), Malta (9.4 per cent), Croatia (9.3 per cent) and Lithuania (8.4 per cent).

At the level of the EU, tax revenue increased by 5.5 per cent from 2024 to 2025 or by around 401 billion euro.

At the level of the EU, decreases in absolute total tax revenue are observed in the available time series from 1995 to 2025 only in 2009 (-5.2 per cent), due to the economic and financial crisis, and in 2020 (-3.6 per cent), due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Eurostat said.
