Bulgarian railways to halt 10 passenger trains for an hour as clocks change to winter time

The transition from summer to winter time on the night of October 24 to 25 will affect the movement of 10 passenger trains, Bulgarian state railways BDZ said.

The trains will stop at various railway stations along their routes in order to avoid disruption to the timetable, it said.

The current practice in railway transport when changing from summer to winter time is for trains to stop for up to 60 minutes at the first station on their routes when 4am approaches.

“This avoids an earlier passage through the remaining stations, which would lead to serious confusion in the timetable and of other trains connecting with the compositions affected by the time change,” BDZ said.

The time change this year will affect the following trains, which will stop at the nearest railway station:

The international fast train No. 492 from Istanbul to Sofia will stop at Svilengrad station;

The fast train No. 2626 from Varna to Sofia (via Gorna Oryahovitsa) will stop at Mezdra station;

The fast train No. 2627 from Sofia to Varna (via Gorna Oryahovitsa) will stop at Targovishte station;
