The newly constructed section is about three kilometres long and is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

It includes three new metro stations: Georgi Asparuhov Stadium, Bessarabia and General Vladimir Vazov.

“The three metro stations are designed and built with modern, clean lines that emphasise the sense of movement and dynamism,” Sofia municipality said.

“The architectural solutions are also related to the places in which they are located,” it said.

It is expected that car traffic in the area will decrease by up to 25 per cent, it said.
