Bulgaria utilities regulator raises gas prices by 4.6% for August 2026
Bulgaria’s utilities regulator has approved a 4.6 per cent increase in the regulated gas price in the country for the month of August, setting the new price at 39.43 euro a MWh, excluding transportation costs, excise and value-added tax.
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) said that despite the increase, the regulated price of natural gas in Bulgaria was about 30 per cent than the prices on European gas markets.
The price EWRC set for August was higher than in the same month of last year (62.09 leva, or 31.75 euro, a MWh) and August 2024 (60.75 leva, or 31.05 euro, a MWh).
According to the regulator, the higher price in August was due to gas imports from Turkey to supplement the gas delivered under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan. For the first time in years, EWRC made no mention of any deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes to Bulgaria in the upcoming month.
