Bulgaria annual inflation drops to 5.4% in June

Bulgaria’s annual consumer price index (CPI) recorded 5.4 per cent inflation in June, a sharp drop from 6.9 per cent a month earlier, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on July 15.

The monthly CPI figure showed 0.9 per cent deflation, only the second time in the past 12 months that prices shrank on a monthly basis.

Food prices were 1.9 per cent lower in June compared to May, while non-food prices fell by 1.1 per cent and services prices were 0.1 per cent higher.

Compared to June 2025, food prices were up 2.4 per cent, while non-food prices rose by 5.6 per cent and services prices were 7.7 per cent higher.

The harmonised CPI figure, calculated by NSI for comparison with European Union data, recorded 0.5 per cent monthly deflation, and the annual harmonised CPI inflation fell to 5.2 per cent, down from 6.3 per cent a month earlier.

Food and beverage prices were 2.3 per cent higher in June, on an annual basis, while the price of utilities and housing rose by 5.1 per cent and transportation costs were 11 per cent higher compared to the same month of last year.
