Bulgaria records 569.1 million euro Budget deficit in January-February 2026

Bulgaria’s Finance Ministry has recorded a consolidated Budget deficit of 569.1 million euro in the first two months of the year, less than the 0.6 billion euro deficit it projected earlier, the ministry said late on April 1.

In the same period of 2025, Bulgaria recorded a Budget deficit of 999.7 million leva, or about 510.5 million euro. The ministry did not provide an immediate Budget balance projection for the first three months of the year.

Consolidated budget revenue in January-February was 6.84 billion euro, up 21.7 per cent compared to the same period of last year, with tax revenues recording an increase of 15.8 per cent to 5.38 billion euro, the ministry said.

Spending was 7.4 billion euro, up 20.8 per cent from the same period of 2025, with the bulk of the increase going to higher pensions and other social spending, the ministry said.
