Valentin Georgiev, Secretary General of Constitutional Court and former AmCham Bulgaria executive director, dies

Valentin Georgiev, Secretary General of the Constitutional Court and former executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham), has died, the court said on its website on March 30.

Georgiev attended the First English Language School in Sofia, going on to graduate in law from Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski, then specialising at Georgetown University in Washington DC in the economics program at the Faculty of International Relations.

He held various government positions, including advisor to the government’s Foreign Investment Commission of, chairman of the supervisory board of the Privatisation Agency, adviser on regulatory acts of the Cabinet, adviser to the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, and adviser to the EU PHARE program.

He was the Secretary General of the National Assembly from 1997 to 2001, and from 2002 to 2016, executive director of AmCham Bulgaria.

Georgiev became head of the administration of the Constitutional Court in 2017.

One of the highlights of his work was international activity, where, thanks to his active participation and professional contribution, the Constitutional Court of Bulgaria continues to successfully build its authority at the international level, the court said.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
