NSI poll: Downturn in business sentiment in Bulgaria in March

A regular monthly poll by the National Statistical Institute (NSI) has found a downturn in business sentiment in Bulgaria in March.

The March total business climate indicator was down by 3.8 percentage points compared with February, with Bulgaria’s industry, retail trade and service sectors holding unfavourable views of the business climate.

The largest drop was in the service sector, by 9.6 percentage points, with managers reserved in their assessments and expectations about the business situation.

In the retail trade, the indicator was down by 6.9 percentage points, with retailers’ views of the business situation shifting from “better” to “staying the same”. Their opinions about the volume of sales over the last three months were negative, while their forecasts about the next three months were favourable.

The industry indicator dropped by 1.3 percentage points, with managers holding unfavourable views of the current business situation, the NSI said.

In the construction industry, the indicator was largely unchanged compared with February.
