Bulgaria records 212.1 million euro Budget surplus in January 2026

Bulgaria’s Finance Ministry has recorded a consolidated Budget surplus of 212.1 million leva in the first month of the year, the ministry said late on March 2.

In the first month of 2025, Bulgaria recorded a Budget surplus of 563.9 million leva, or about 288.3 million euro.

The finance ministry projected a Budget deficit of 0.6 billion euro through February, but noted that it was not significantly larger than the figure recorded in the same period of 2025, when the deficit was 511.1 million euro.

Consolidated budget revenue in January was 3.61 billion euro, up 11.4 per cent compared to the same month of last year, mainly due to the increase in tax revenues, which rose by 11.3 per cent to 2.98 billion euro, the ministry said.

Spending was 3.39 billion euro, up 15.1 per cent from the same period of 2025, with the bulk of the increase going to higher pensions and other social spending.
