Bulgaria issues highest-level weather warning for some districts over forecast heavy rain on November 28

Bulgaria’s meteorological bureau has issued the highest-level warning – Code Red, of very dangerous weather – for some districts for November 28 because of forecast heavy rain.

The districts subject to the Code Red warning are Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik and Smolyan.

The bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for several districts for November 28, also because of forecast heavy rain: Kyustendil, Sofia district (as distinct from Sofia city), Kurdzhali, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Gabrovo and Lovech.

The lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather has been issued for Sofia city, Yambol, Sliven, Veliko Turnovo, Pleven, Vratsa, Pernik, Vidin and Montana.

The remaining districts are classified Code Green for November 28, meaning that no weather warning is in place.

The meteorological bureau said that on November 28, there will be heavy and prolonged precipitation in the western, southern and central parts of Bulgaria.

In eastern Bulgaria, the rain will be accompanied by thunderstorms.

In most areas, a moderate easterly wind will blow.

Minimum temperatures will be between 4° and 9° Celsius, in south-eastern Bulgaria up to 12°, in Sofia about 6°. Maximum temperatures will be between 9° and 14°, in the western half of the Danube Plain: 6°-7°, in Sofia about 9°.

It will be cloudy in the mountains. The ridges and peaks will be covered with clouds. Rainfall will continue, and above 1800 metres above sea level it will snow, on the western parts of the Stara Planina above 1500 metres.

The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 7°, at 2000 metres, about 2°.

It will be cloudy along the Black Sea coast. In places there will be rain showers, accompanied by thunderstorms. There will be moderate, and temporarily strong winds from the east-northeast along the Northern Black Sea coast. Maximum temperatures will be between 14° and 17°.
