Bulgaria utilities regulator raises gas prices by 6% for October 2026
Bulgaria’s utilities regulator said on October 1 that it approved a six per cent increase in the regulated gas price in the country for the month of October, setting the new price at 44.09 euro a MWh, excluding transportation costs, excise and value-added tax.
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) said that it denied the request by state-owned gas company Bulgargaz to set the price for October at 44.41 euro a MWh.
Given that the outlook for natural gas price trends in the coming winter season was already unfavourable, the regulator said that the additional price increase sought by the company was “unacceptable”.
The price increase was the fourth in as many months, and put October’s gas price well above the price in the same month of 2025, when it was 61.01 leva a MWh, or 31.19 euro a MWh.
Domestic consumption for October will be covered by gas received under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan, as well as liquefied natural gas (LNG) delivered under previously agreed contracts, as well as “minimum draw” from the country’s Chiren gas storage facility, the regulator said.
