Bulgaria’s Radev government hikes electronic road tax fees by 30% from August 1

Bulgaria’s government headed by Prime Minister Roumen Radev decided on July 29 to hike electronic road tax fees – known as vignettes – by 30 per cent from August 1 2026.

For motorists of cars of up to 3.5 tons – the average light car, that means that the price of an annual vignette jumps from 49.60 euro to 64.50 euro, according to a Bulgarian government information service statement after the July 29 meeting of Radev’s Cabinet, Bulgaria’s first government since 2019 to increase the price.

The price of a quarterly vignette is being increased from 27.61 euro to 35.90 euro, a monthly vignette from 15.34 euro to 19.90 euro, and a weekly vignette from 7.67 euro to 10 euro.

The weekend vignette price increases from 5.11 euro to 6.60 euro and that of a one-day vignette from 4.09 euro to 5.30 euro.

The Bulgarian government information service said that the move would mean additional revenue for the state of more than 22.5 million euro in 2026 and more than 54 million euro in 2027.
