Pilots at Lufthansa to strike on March 12 and 13, affecting departures from German airports
The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) pilots’ union has decided on strike action at Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, Lufthansa Cargo, and Lufthansa CityLine, the union said.
The strike will affect flights operated by Lufthansa Cargo AG and Lufthansa Passenger Airlines departing from German airports between 00:01 on March 12 and 23:59 on March 13.
The union said that in the light of the current situation in the Middle East, flights operated by Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Lufthansa CityLine GmbH from Germany to the following destinations are expressly exempt from the strike: Egypt, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Yemen, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The industrial action is based on two main reasons: firstly, the failed collective bargaining negotiations on remuneration issues at Lufthansa CityLine, and secondly, on the company pension scheme for pilots at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo, the union said.
The labour dispute stems from the unsuccessful negotiations regarding the company pension scheme for pilots at Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo.
At the same time, the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union is also calling on Lufthansa CityLine pilots to strike. This follows the failed negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement on pay for Lufthansa CityLine cockpit personnel based in Germany.
The strike will affect Lufthansa CityLine flights departing from German airports on March 12 from 00:01 local time to 23:59 local time in Germany.
