Poll: GERB-UDF 22.6%, WCC – Democratic Bulgaria 14%

Were Bulgaria to hold parliamentary elections now, Boiko Borissov’s centre-right GERB-UDF coalition would again win by far by the largest share of votes, 22.6 per cent among those who would vote, according to a Market Links poll.

The poll, the results of which were released on March 6, found that the reformist We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria coalition would be second with 14 per cent.

In third place is the Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning, led by Magnitsky Act-sanctioned Delyan Peevski, with 11.8 per cent, and in fourth, pro-Russian party Vuzrazhdane, 11.4 per cent.

The Ahmed Dogan loyalists of the Democracy, Rights and Freedoms would get 6.6 per cent, the Bulgarian Socialist Party – United Left six per cent, and populist-nationalist Mech, 4.3 per cent.

Below the threshold of a four per cent share of valid votes to win seats in the National Assembly is cable television presenter Slavi Trifonov’s populist ITN party, at 3.8 per cent.

The Rossen Zhelyazkov coalition government has an approval rating of 27 per cent and a disapproval rating of 46 per cent.

Individually, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov has an approval rating of 26 per cent and a disapproval rating of 49 per cent.

The 51st National Assembly, elected in October 2024, has an approval rating of 13 per cent and a disapproval rating of 64 per cent. Its Speaker, Nataliya Kiselova – of the BSP – United Left, has an approval rating of 31 per cent and a disapproval rating of 35 per cent.

Head of state President Roumen Radev’s approval rating is 49 per cent and his disapproval rating is 33 per cent.

GERB-UDF leader Borissov has an approval rating of 24 per cent and a disapproval rating of 58 per cent.

Vuzrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov’s approval rating is 17 per cent and his disapproval rating is 66 per cent.

Among political party leaders, Peevski has the highest disapproval rating, 79 per cent, with an approval rating of 10 per cent, followed by WCC-DB co-leader Kiril Petkov, who has a disapproval rating of 73 per cent and an approval rating of 11 per cent.

Market Links also polled Bulgarians about their views of foreign leaders.

The poll found that US President Donald Trump has an approval rating of 30 per cent and a disapproval rating of 41 per cent. Russian ruler Vladimir Putin an approval rating of 29 per cent and a disapproval rating of 47 per cent, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy an approval rating of 18 per cent and a disapproval rating of 57 per cent.

The poll was financed and conducted jointly by Market Links and bTV, was done among 1025 people over 18 years of age, between February 22 and March 2, using the methods of direct personal interviews and online polling.
